About TedFred
Hello, I'm TedFred. I’ve been writing software since the 1970s. After working as a UNIX administrator, I came to appreciate how powerful and robust its command structure is. In comparison, I found the MS-DOS file system limiting — so I decided to build my own operating systems. First came Dinkit, then Dos Zero, and finally EzDos.
At the time, I didn’t think any of these projects were particularly special. But the “inside-out” approach they use makes learning an operating system’s inner workings much easier to understand. Because of this, many of my students encouraged me to share the project online so others could benefit from it as well.
So here it is — a simple, approachable way to learn the basic principles of how an operating system works. If it helps someone understand computing more clearly, then it has done its job.
